Athletic Bilbao, which we share the same philosophy, is also coming the International Izmir Cup, which we have been organizing since 2013. In September, our Corporate Communications Director Can Erbesler and our European Director Murat Korkmaz met with Academy Coordinator Diego Gil de Gomez and Deputy Coordinator Txus Gojenuri at the Athletic Club Facilities and delivered their invitations. Athletic Bilbao Academy Coordinator Gomez explained that although U12 is played 6+1 all over Spain, they always play with the 8+1 system for the development of their children and that's why the U12 Izmir Cup is very valuable according to their evaluations. The Spanish team informed our club that they will participate in an official letter. The organization to be held on 6-7-8-9 April 2023 will be attended by Juventus, Porto, Leicester City, Benfica, Galatasaray, Bayer 04 Leverkusen, Fenerbahçe, Zenit, Beşiktaş, Olympic Marseille, FC Schalke 04, Club Brugge and Eintracht Frankfurt, Valencia, Altay, After Celta De Vigo, Göztepe, AZ Alkmaar, Paris Saint-Germain, Bayern Munich, Manchester City, Ajax, Karşıyaka, Hamburger SV, Trabzonspor, Aspire Academy, Başakşehir, Hammarby, Bursaspor, Athletic Bilbao also announced to our club with an official letter that they will participate.
IT WAS NOT DONE FOR THREE YEARS
The International U12 İzmir Cup could not be held for the last three years due to the pandemic. In the tournament that started with 8 participating teams in 2013, 72 teams came together in İzmir in 2019. 8 teams in 2013, 12 teams in 2014, 48 teams in 2015, 2016 and 2017, 56 teams in 2018 and 72 teams in 2019 participated in this organization. The champion of the tournament, organized with the motto "The World Gathers at İzmir", was Manchester City, which against PSV on penalties in the final.
